Epilogue

Aswathama,Drona’s son, heard about all the cheap tactics employed by the Pandavas to kill his father,Karna and Duryodhana. He,at once, started plotting for revenge. He then,by the cover of darkness, set fire to the camp of the Pandavas. The Pandavas along with a few others escaped while all their children and most of their relatives perished.

Yudhisthira and his brothers ruled the kingdom well for fifteen years. They looked after Dhritarashtra and Gandhari, the parents of Kauravas, without any indifference. But after 15 years,Dhritarashtra and Gandhari along with Kunti Devi retired to the forests to lead an ascetic’s life.

Finally after the death of Lord Krishna, the Pandavas lost their will to live. And having installed Parikshit as Emperor, they embarked on a pilgrimage. At the end of journey, they finally attained heaven and became united with their loved ones.

  2. I would say based on some research that Janamejaya was the last known king of the Kuru race.He was the son of King Parikshit .Mahabharata in its original form was first recited before him by one of Sage Vyasa’s pupils.
